Goa University has been accredited with a CGPA of 3.3/4.0 on a four point scale at A+ grade valid up to 2030 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India. NAAC is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), an initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, ranked Goa University in its 2025 cycle of ranking Indian Higher Educational Institutions. Goa University was placed in the State Public University Rank-band of 51-100.

QS ranking has been ranked Goa University at 682 in QS Asia Ranking 2026. In Southern Asia, Goa University is ranked 207 by the QS ranking. Goa University has been ranked at 1501+ rank in the QS World Sustainability ranking 2026. Goa University has been rated as 'Very High' in Research output.

In the Times Higher Education ranking Goa University holds an overall rank of 1501+ worldwide among the 3118 Universities in the world in the Times Higher Education World University ranking 2026. The University has been ranked at 601-800 band in Asia. Teaching is the highest-ranked pillar, followed by Research Quality of Goa University in THE ranking.

'India Today' ranked Goa University at the 22nd level among the General (Government) Universities in India (in 2025).

Admissions

The number of programmes and the total student strength at the University campus is on increase. The 10 schools imparting PG education at the University campus harbours about 2000 students today for the PG programmes alone.

The student strength at the affiliated non-professional and professional colleges in 2017-18 was 22776 and 10958 respectively.

There are about 500 students registered for PhD programmes doing their research at the University schools, affiliated colleges and recognized institutions

Publications repository and h-index

The strength of Goa University lies in the number of research publications and the H-index. Goa University has so far published over 7400 research publications (including PhD theses), and the full text of these are available at the unique Publications Repository. There are very few state universities in India that have made such an effort to consolidate the information. There is a multi-fold increase in the visibility of the university with its publications on the repository. The current H-index, as per the Web of Science database, from just 2515 journal publications out of 7400 is 90.
